Short answer: every magnesium form delivers the same mineral; what differs is the compound it is bound to. Glycinate (bisglycinate) is the form usually chosen to support calm, relaxation and sleep quality and is generally described as gentle on the stomach; citrate is a common everyday form; malate pairs magnesium with malic acid, which takes part in energy production; L-threonate (Magtein) is usually chosen for memory and cognitive support.
Read "elemental magnesium", not the compound weight
The number that matters is elemental magnesium per serving, not the weight of the whole compound. From our labels: NOW Magtein has 2,000 mg magnesium L-threonate providing 144 mg elemental magnesium per 3 capsules, while NOW Magnesium Glycinate provides 200 mg elemental magnesium per 2 tablets.
